Senate aide Erin Gulick just legislated herself a job.
Gulick is a senior advisor to Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., a major booster of the Export-Import Bank. Democrats this year fought fiercely to save the agency, which subsidizes U.S. exports, from conservative critics. Cantwell is particularly attached to the agency because the biggest beneficiary is Boeing, based in Washington state.
In the fight the keep the agency alive past Sept. 30, “The Senate strategy was shepherded at the staff-level by Erin Gulick of Senator Cantwell’s staff,” according to a political intelligence newsletter from Capitol Strategies.
Ex-Im, industry lobbyists and Democrats won a partial victory last month when they extended the bank’s charter until the end of June. On the first day of this temporary authorization, Gulick, the “shepherd” of Ex-Im, started work as Ex-Im’s lobbyist, the Hill’s Megan Wilson reports.
So maybe Cantwell was right when she said the Export-Import Bank creates jobs.
