Under questioning from Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas testified today that the Biden administration’s border security plan “is working.”
After noting that Mayorkas testified earlier in July that the Biden administration was implementing a plan to get the border under control, Hawley asked Mayorkas, “Since that time, CBP has released data that showed two straight months of illegal border encounters above 200,000, which, as you know, hasn’t happened in decades. My question is, ‘When is your plan going to work?’”
At first, Mayorkas tried to dodge the question by repeating what the plan was. But Hawley stopped him, insisting, “My question is when is it going to work?”
“So it is in fact working,” Mayorkas replied.
There are currently over 10,000 Haitian migrants living in a shantytown under an international bridge that DHS had to shut down for safety concerns. Local authorities are arresting 30-40 migrants a day and are completely overwhelmed. A busload of migrants overpowered their bus driver and escaped into Texas before they were captured by Texas authorities. Tens of thousands of more migrants are reportedly on their way to the border.
