MSNBC decided to make weekend host Joy Reid one of the stars of its Tuesday night election coverage. But the liberal television network’s decision to trot out Reid during its coverage of the Democratic New Hampshire primary reminds us of its gross hypocrisy.
She ran a virulently, viciously, anti-gay blog throughout the 2000s, lied about it, and has never been held accountable. As Vox summarized:
It would be one thing if Reid had owned up to these mistakes, apologized, and moved on. I could live with that — I don’t believe in cancel culture. But instead, the host shamelessly denied it all, peddling conspiracy theories about a “hacker” infiltrating her blog. Even the New York Times wasn’t going to fall for that one. She hasn’t apologized. She hasn’t even admitted she did it, despite all the evidence to the contrary. It’s blatant dishonesty, to the point of disqualification.
This shreds Reid’s ability to cover a pivotal event such as the New Hampshire primary credibly. Reid lied, over and over again, and MSNBC let her get away with it. Why should anyone watching tonight believe anything she has to say?
