Tuesday was a sad day of political stupidity — In this Tuesday, July 31, 2018, file photo, supporters of President Donald Trump shout down a CNN news crew before a rally in Tampa, Fla. Amid the "Trump 2020" placards, the "Women for Trump" signs and the "CNN SUCKS" T-shirts.

Even by 2018 standards, Tuesday was a day of particular stupidity in political discourse.

Take President Trump’s rally in Tampa, Fla. A Venus flytrap for the president’s less-sane supporters, CNN’s Jim Acosta was subjected to screaming insults as he reported on Trump’s address. The footage of screaming people (including one fanatic brandishing Seth Rich conspiracy signs) was not conducive to the presentation of conservative intellect.
