Less than 24 hours before polls opened in the Indiana Senate primary, Rep. Luke Messer pulled out the big guns. More specifically, the Indiana Republican and his family adopted a little West Highland Terrier. Now they are hitting the campaign trail with the little fur ball in tow and it is absolutely adorable.
Is this Messer being a good dad, or is this Messer exploiting an adorable doggo named Ollie for political gain? Who knows? Who cares? All politics should be like this. Our democracy needs more dogs.

This is especially true in the Indiana Republican primary where politics has been especially brutal. Messer and his opponents, businessman Mike Braun and Rep. Todd Rokita, have hurled all sorts of invectives at each other to the delight of vulnerable Sen. Joe Donnelly, D-Ind.
But by putting paws on the ground, Messer offers a nice reprieve from the last-minute negative campaigning. If man’s best friend helps Messer become Indiana Republicans’ nominee, he needs to walk the dog with him to the general election.
