Joy Reid still has nothing to say about missing women of color

A little over a week ago, MSNBC pundit Joy Reid complained about national media coverage of Gabby Petito, dubbing it “missing white woman syndrome.” She cited other examples such as Natalee Holloway and Laci Peterson. Reid did what she normally does and asked, “Why not the same media attention when people of color go missing?”

Well, I have a question for Reid: Why haven’t you given any media attention to missing women of color?

One week after decrying “missing white woman syndrome,” Reid has done exactly the same thing she complained that every other outlet was doing — ignoring the case of Miya Marcano, a missing woman of color.

Marcano was last seen on Sept. 24 at the Arden Villas apartments in Orlando. She is 19 years old and 5 feet tall, NBC affiliate WESH 2 reported. Marcano’s father told authorities that his daughter was supposed to catch a flight to her family’s home in Fort Lauderdale on the evening of Sept. 24 but never boarded the plane. Marcano works for the leasing office in the apartment complex where she lives. Armando Manuel Caballero, 27, a maintenance man for the complex, was identified as a person of interest after she was declared missing. He was found dead by apparent suicide on Monday, NBC affiliate WESH 2 reported.

The case of Marcano is absolutely tragic and heartbreaking. It’s even good television. So why isn’t Reid talking about it? She has a platform of over a million viewers a night, five nights a week. She has had two shows since Marcano went missing — that could have been over 2 million exposures about Marcano’s case. She could have even brought it up to argue about the attention it is receiving relative to that of Petito. But she didn’t. She didn’t even tweet about it. It’s not something she normally tweets about — I was not able to go through all of her 187,300 tweets, but it does not appear she discusses any missing women of color.

Instead of Marcano, Reid chose to talk about former President Donald Trump, the “MAGA” party, the Arizona audit, the Cyber Ninjas report, Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney, Republicans, West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin, and former President Barack Obama.

She chose to retweet about Trump, Gen. Mark Milley, LeBron James, Republicans, Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley, Damian Lillard, the Lincoln Project, the Tulsa Race Massacre, Jimi Hendrix, Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert, Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz, South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott, Django Unchained, and Tucker Carlson, just to name a few.

Reid isn’t talking about Marcano because, quite frankly, she doesn’t care. She has other things to do with her time, including criticizing the media for never talking about people like Marcano.
