The caravan of migrants BuzzFeed originally reported on that is marching towards the U.S. border was organized by a group called Pueblos sin Fronteras. This translates as “People Without Borders,” which we explored in our editorial earlier this week.
What we didn’t think through was that our editorial would create confusion with a U.S.-based nonprofit called “People without Borders,” which has nothing to do with the caravan. This Christian-based nonprofit aims at helping assimilate recent immigrants, not at bringing in hundreds of asylum-seekers.
Even more disturbing, the people at People without Borders tell us they have received nasty and threatening messages by people believing they were involved in the caravan. This is really an example of thoughtless anger that defines our current discourse.
