The New York Times accuses Republicans of racism for noticing crime

Democrats and their liberal media allies will do anything to avoid addressing the issue of crime, including accusing Republicans of racism for talking about it.

Writing for the New York Times, Jonathan Weisman accused Republicans of “injecting race” into campaigns across the country for daring to label black Democratic candidates as soft on crime. He cites ads targeting Senate candidates Mandela Barnes (D-WI) and Cheri Beasley (D-NC) because both are black. He also raises the horror of random mailers in New Mexico state races that allegedly “darkened” the hands of a barber.

PHILADELPHIA OFFICERS STRUGGLE AGAINST CRIMINALS AND A MISGUIDED DISTRICT ATTORNEY

Add some stupid quotes from Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL), and your race-baiting piece is ready for print at the New York Times.

There are multiple problems with this premise. For one, both Barnes and Beasley are soft on crime, as even a cursory look at their records shows. Neither random mailers from random races nor quotes from the less intelligent members of the GOP caucus change that fact. Weisman is effectively saying that Republicans shouldn’t attack Barnes or Beasley on their own records (which he likely believes).

More importantly, labeling Democrats as soft on crime is not exclusive to those two races. If anything, the strategy has been used the most against Pennsylvania Senate candidate John Fetterman and New York Gov. Kathy Hochul. You may not have noticed, but neither of them is black. (Though, since we are on the topic of racism against black people, Fetterman chased down a black jogger in his pickup truck and held him at gunpoint. Make of that what you will.)

So, not only is Weisman cherry-picking random campaign materials and quotes, but he is also cherry-picking campaigns where black candidates are being labeled soft on crime while ignoring the white Democrats who are the focus of such attacks. Is there anything else he could be missing?

Buried in the 22nd paragraph of his piece, Weisman manages to note that fliers “distributed by a Democratic group” in a North Florida campaign feature the face of a black Republican candidate with bullets shown underneath. That black Republican is challenging a white Democrat, but Weisman immediately defends the ad as a perfectly normal gun control mailer.

The five-alarm racism fires only go one way, of course.

This is nothing more than yet another pathetic attempt to smear Republicans as racist for daring to campaign against or criticize Democrats who happen to be black. It’s a strategy that continues to lose potency as Republicans make gains with minorities, especially when voters are, in fact, concerned about crime. Maybe Weisman and the liberal activists he quotes will wake up to that fact when the party gets swamped on Election Day.
