A new election-watch website launches for political junkies

In the wee hours of Wednesday morning, the crew over at Ace of Spades Headquarters Decision Desk (the people who rocked the 2014 primaries) launched a new political website.

In his usual down-to-earth style, Decision Desk creator Brandon Finnigan took the time to thank numerous people in a blog announcing the new website. He thanked 11 people by name and the more than 130 volunteers who made the Decision Desk so prompt and accurate during the primaries.

After all of that, Finnigan introduced the website.

“We aim to provide a one-stop-shop for polls, a cross-party compilation of election analysis along with our own and, of course, a fast and accurate alternative source for election returns on the big night,” Finnigan wrote.

He added that he and his team of “conservatives obsessed with elections” don’t want to see 2012 repeated, “where even some of the smartest analysts on the right allowed their bias to overwhelm their perception of the lay of the land.”

By far the best part of the website currently is the map feature for Senate and gubernatorial races. Similar to the map on Real Clear Politics, the Decision Desk adds a rollover feature that allows users to quickly see the polling averages in a given state.

On the same page, one can find the latest news on the races from both sides of the aisle, as well as the latest campaign ads.

The site is still under construction — the “Headlines” and “Web Ads” pages don’t appear to load, and the “Contact” page opens directly to e-mail. A page to sign up as a volunteer is up and running. Finnigan said that 12 new volunteers have signed up since the profile ran in the Washington Examiner last week and since the website launched.

The site was pre-populated with content written as early as Monday. It will be interesting to see it once everything comes together, but for now, that map is the simplest, fastest way to track all the Senate and gubernatorial races this cycle.
