Prospective UDC students shouldn’t need application help
Re: “UDC to cut more jobs, programs,” Oct. 3
If this article doesn’t expose the latest insanity in D.C., I sure don’t know what else to call it.
My comment is short and sweet, and directed toward D.C. residents and the University of the District of Columbia Board regarding UDC’s plan to assist students in completing their college applications.
Really? C’mon, UDC.
If someone can’t even complete a basic college application, they are definitely not smart enough to be in college in the first place.

Uniformed voters should stay home on Election Day
It’s disconcerting to see our sacred right to vote ubiquitously evangelized outside the Metro stations. Since democracies only function when the electorate is informed, I want to remind voters that it is their responsibility to scrutinize the candidates, weigh all of the issues, and have the facts before voting.
During Wednesday’s presidential debate, the candidates declared things to be fact things that are not fact.Anyone who finds a point of enthusiastic agreement or conflict should investigate the claims — apart from the rhetoric.
Campaigns are not educational exercises, so becoming informed is the responsibility of each individual voter.The worst policy outcomes will only be exacerbated by an electorate that bases its decision on emotion, sectionalism and orthodoxy.
If one does not know enough to vote thoughtfully, then there is nothing more patriotic than showing consideration for one’s fellow citizens by refraining from casting an ill-informed ballot.
If you don’t know, then don’t vote.

Obama’s own words should frighten supporters
Voting for President Obama? You’re likely a member of one of the minority special interest groups which he has so successfully pandered to, including gays, blacks, Hispanics, feminists, women, college students, union members, welfare recipients, environmentalists and the 47 percent.
Obama’s real intent is to achieve re-election by pandering to special interest groups and dividing the nation, and then pursuing his own wealth redistributionist agenda.
Just this once, these voters should put their own agendas in abeyance and vote for what’s best for America, because the country is now in jeopardy.
One can ignore all the misleading, wrong, non-sequitur, and hot air statements and promises Obama has made, including some outright lies. But these two chilling statements should set off warning klaxons: “We are going to fundamentally change America,” and “After the election, I’ll have more flexibility.”
