This state just made cursive lessons mandatory for students

The AP reports that Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards signed a bill requiring that cursive writing be taught in public schools.

“The measure requires public schools, including charter schools, to introduce cursive writing instruction by third grade,” the AP report says. “Instruction will have to continue through 12th grade.”

The requirement will begin in the 2017-18 school year.

The bill had an easy path through the state legislature, passing 88-1 in the state House and 37-0 in the Senate.
