Steny Hoyer joins the chorus of Democrats delegitimizing elections

Democrats continue to delegitimize in advance the 2022 midterm elections, in which they are likely to suffer heavy losses.

This is in keeping with the Democratic tradition of delegitimizing all elections they lose.

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer reiterated President Joe Biden’s assertion that the 2022 elections could be illegitimate if Democrats don’t get to control all state elections from Washington, D.C. Although Biden’s staff already tried to walk back his comments, Hoyer said he agreed with Biden, adding, “This is about an America that really believes in making sure that the people’s voice is heard and reflected in the outcome of the elections.”

Hoyer’s communications team subsequently tried to clean up the statement, asserting that Hoyer “does not believe the 2022 election will be illegitimate” but “simply that millions of Americans have been systematically disenfranchised from our democracy by GOP election suppression legislation.”

But that does not compute. Hoyer, like Biden, made it very clear what he was saying: The election isn’t legitimate unless we get our bill passed for a federal takeover of elections.

BIDEN SAYS 2022 MIDTERM ELECTIONS ‘COULD EASILY BE ILLEGITIMATE’

Undermining faith in elections, before and after they occur, has become a Democratic staple in recent years. Stacey Abrams was the most famous election denialist in 2018, but few know that she actually began delegitimizing the race she lost well before Georgians rejected her in favor of Gov. Brian Kemp. Biden warned that only “chicanery” at polling places could cause him to lose to former President Donald Trump. Prominent Democrats also spread conspiracy theories about mailboxes in order to suggest that the Trump administration was committing massive election fraud and the results would be illegitimate.

Democrats had already begun laying the groundwork to delegitimize the 2022 elections before Biden gave Hoyer and others the green light. Democratic fearmongering and lying about “voter suppression” laws in Texas (where Democrats keep thinking they can win and keep falling short) and Georgia (where Democrats finally broke through in 2020, with Trump’s help) planted the seeds for it.

Losses are indeed looming for Democrats this year. According to a Harvard CAPS/Harris poll, Biden’s approval is at 39%, a new low. According to an NBC News poll, Republicans have a double-digit enthusiasm advantage for the midterm elections. Meanwhile, Biden and Democrats continue to fail, with the doomed vote on “voting rights” coming up short and Russia now threatening to invade Ukraine again. The United States is now desperately trying to evacuate Americans from a second country that is about to be conquered by authoritarians on Biden’s watch.

Democrats have set the stage for delegitimizing their likely election losses in 2022. Yet somehow, with the help of the media, they paint the GOP as the one and only party of election deniers.
