President Trump’s poetic description of dairy farmers as “local milk people” in a conversation with the Australian prime minister went viral after The Washington Post published transcripts of his phone calls with world leaders. The phrase, as plain as it is provocative, stimulated the imaginations of Twitter users far and wide. Local Milk People, for instance, would be an excellent name for an indie rock band.
But Trump’s lyrically plain parlance, a hallmark of his communications style, regularly produces similar turns of phrase. Here are several additional excerpts from Trump’s remarks in the Washington Post transcripts that I wouldn’t be surprised to see listed as bands on the lineup at Bonnaroo in 2018.
-
Pretty Tough Hombres– An all-girl group that loves irony but hates bass guitars.
-
Fat of the Past– High-minded musings on contemporary life set to gentle harmonies sung between three friends who met in a class on Nietzsche at Oberlin. A fair amount of xylophone.
-
Billions and Billions and Billions – Like Coldplay, but worse.
-
Jared and Luis– An acoustic duo of two brothers who look like characters from a Wes Anderson film. Don’t ask them to cover Banana Pancakes.
-
World’s Greatest Person– A DJ who relies on an obnoxious persona to sell records to frat boys, but is more introverted than the world realizes. Matt Lauer really wants to interview him.
What did I miss?
