Noted idiot Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., says you ought to ignore that 22-month-long investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller’s team, which concluded it could not establish that “members of the Trump Campaign conspired or coordinated with the Russian government in its election interference activities.”
The California congressman maintains he has personally seen evidence of collusion between the White House and Russia. So just hang in there for the truth to come out, Swalwell assured the faithful this week during an interview on MSNBC.
Of course, the Democratic lawmaker hasn’t provided any proof to back his claim. You just have to trust him on this.
“I have seen the Trump campaign for myself and others and to that, I would say the only person who has made false statements about Russia is Donald Trump,” Swalwell told MSNBC. “I stand by what I said about seeing evidence of collusion. If he has a problem with that, he can sue me. And I promise you I would win in court.”
“As to the counterintelligence mission that we have, we need to know whether any U.S. person, whether it’s on a campaign, a transition or an administration has been compromised or did seek to work with or did work with the Russians, and that’s separate from a criminal investigation,” Swalwell said.
Special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation, which involved 40 agents, 2,800 subpoenas, some 500 search warrants, and 500 witness interviews, concluded it could not “establish that the members of the Trump Campaign conspired or coordinated with the Russian government in its election interference activities,” Attorney General William Barr told lawmakers this weekend, citing the investigation report.

The attorney general also said there is not enough evidence “to establish that the President committed an obstruction-of-justice offense.” In other words, it’s a stunning defeat for the newsrooms and lawmakers who have maintained for the last two years that there’s a mountain of clues clearly showing the Trump campaign coordinated directly with the Kremlin to steal the 2016 presidential election.
Swalwell himself claimed in 2017 that he had personally seen “things on the classified side that” are “even stronger evidence” the Trump’s team colluded with Russia. The congressman alleged later in November 2018 that “we are seeing the evidence that there was a conspiracy to cover up” Russian collusion. In January, he maintained, without evidence, that “it’s pretty clear” and that it’s “almost hiding in plain sight” that the president is a foreign agent working on the behalf of Russia. Swalwell has failed consistently to produce proof of his many collusion assertions. As if that weren’t bad enough, he’s still sticking to his guns, even after the Justice Department essentially told the Russian conspiracists to go home.
If nothing else, at least the congressman is consistent. Horribly wrong and most likely a damned liar, but consistent. That has to count for something, right?
