As our resources at the southern border collapse under the weight of hundreds of thousands of migrants entering the country illegally and staying because we let them, Customs and Border Protection announced Monday that it had apprehended the following illegal immigrants in just the last four days:
- A Salvadoran who had previously been convicted in the state for indecency with a child;
- Ten illegal immigrants, one of whom identified himself as a member of the 18th Street gang, which has ties to Central America.
- A Salvadoran who had an active warrant for his arrest in Texas for sexual assault.
- A Honduran who, after a background check, was revealed to be a member of MS-13, another gang with ties to Central America that is now ravaging public schools and neighborhoods in Maryland, Boston, Virginia and Houston.
This is all while Congress refuses to do anything about the crisis at our border.
Quebec, on the other hand, just passed a law canceling out all pending applications for foreigners hoping to immigrate there. The Agence France-Presse reported Sunday that the Canadian province approved a bill “that will replace a first-come, first-served standard for accepting migrants with one tied to applicants’ skills.”
The law, according to the report, aims to select potential immigrants based on skills needed by the local labor market.
Around 18,000 applications for foreigners hoping to immigrate were nullified with the new law. Each person will have to reapply.
Imagine that. It’s almost as if Quebec cared about the type of people it’s importing to become neighbors with native Canadians. It’s almost as if the Quebec government were saying there should be a selective process about who gets to come in, benefit from their public services, attend their schools, and absorb their culture.
We don’t have that in America. Anyone who shows up at the border with a child is currently allowed in for an indefinite stay, almost no questions asked. It’s a free-for-all.
Maybe it’s time to move to Canada. They seem to care about their people.
