Cardi B, the queen of rap and viral social media rants, doesn’t like anything more than checks. At least, that’s what she raps in “Money,” and it’s what she’s implied in Instagram and Twitter posts about Uncle Sam taking all of her hard-earned cash.
Now she’s throwing her commitment to fiscal conservatism away by apparently endorsing Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt.

When Variety asked her on Friday who she’s supporting in 2020, the rapper said, “I don’t know. You know, Imma always go with Bernie. Bernie don’t say things to be cool. There’s pictures of him being an activist from a very, very, very long time.”
She’s right that Bernie is neither cool nor, at 77-years-old, new to the game. But what, exactly, does the millennial see in him, besides maybe a path to free tuition if she goes back to school?
Cardi B added that she was struck by a recent speech from Rep. Tim Ryan, D-Ohio, a quixotic presidential candidate. Ryan, like Sanders, wants to give Americans “free” healthcare. “We need healthcare,” Cardi B said.
Cardi B doesn’t seem to realize that “free healthcare” would come from meteoric tax hikes that Sanders has proposed. As my colleague Siraj Hashmi pointed out, rappers are lefty, except on taxes.
In February, Cardi B went off on the IRS for taking her money. In a now-deleted video posted to Twitter, she asked, “Who are you to tell people what to do with their hardworking-ass money?” She added:

During tax season last year, Cardi B posted another video asking the government “what you’re doing with my fucking tax money.”
If all she really wants to see is the money, she probably shouldn’t vote for a socialist. How will “Medicare for all” be financed? By having the government take a lot more of her “hardworking-ass money.”
