Democratic candidate caught on tape saying Trump and Osama bin Laden have ‘tremendous amount in common’

Democrat Sean Casten, hoping to unseat Rep. Peter Roskam, R-Ill., inexplicably thinks President Trump has “a tremendous amount in common” with Osama bin Laden.

Casten said at a February meeting with voters: “In many ways — and I don’t mean to sound overly, I don’t know, hyperbolic on this — Trump and Osama Bin Laden have a tremendous amount in common, because they have both figured out how to use the bully pulpit to activate marginalized young men. It’s the same tool.” The audio was published Thursday by the Washington Free Beacon.

Unfortunately for Casten, that does indeed sound just a touch hyperbolic.

“Every demagogue has done this — find a group of angry people and give them something to be angry at,” the candidate added. According to the Free Beacon, Casten’s bizarre comments came in response to a question about gun control.

Oddly enough, despite his belief the president has “a tremendous amount in common” with bin Laden, Casten “stopped short” of calling for his impeachment last week. You would think that would be reason enough.

Love Trump or hate him, arguing the president has anything in common with the man who founded al Qaeda and oversaw the Sept. 11 attacks is obviously absurd. That it even crossed Casten’s mind, let alone came out of his mouth in front of voters, is more than a little concerning.

Casten won his primary in March, and has the endorsement of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee as a member of its “Red to Blue” list. The race is expected to be competitive this fall.
