Democrat Coronavirus Logic 101: If a Republican gets infected, it’s because he wasn’t wearing a mask and social distancing. If a Democrat gets sick, it’s because someone else wasn’t wearing a mask and social distancing.
That ingenious step of reasoning is, of course, reinforced by the news media, which, despite pretending to lament the sad politicization of the pandemic, gleefully engage in it.
Two House Democrats on Monday said that they had tested positive for COVID-19. Pramila Jayapal, the fire-breathing Democrat from Washington, immediately blamed her infection on her GOP colleagues, who haven’t ensured that masks are strapped to their faces every time they enter the Capitol building.
“Too many Republicans have refused to take this pandemic and virus seriously, and in doing so, they endanger everyone around them,” she said in a feisty statement.” Then, without evidence, Jayapal traced her infection to what she claimed was a “superspreader event” created by Republicans during last week’s rioting that put all of Congress on lockdown.
The Washington Post played into that narrative with a headline Tuesday that said, “After hiding with maskless Republicans, Rep. Jayapal feared she would catch the coronavirus. Now she’s tested positive.”
The attending physician to Congress did alert members in an email they might have been exposed to an infected person in one specific room while on lockdown, during which some Republicans were seen not wearing masks. But in recent days, the only Republicans publicly known to have tested positive themselves, Reps. Jake Turner of Kansas and Charles Fleischmann of Tennessee, were not in the room.
Hmm… So, two Democrats have tested positive, and not yet has a Republican said he’s positive. I’m struggling here. Maybe, just maybe, it was actually Jayapal who brought the virus into the Capitol. Or, maybe it was the other Democrat, Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman of New Jersey.
It also doesn’t help her whining that Jayapal herself was literally seen on video, in the House chamber during the assault, without a mask on her face. Doesn’t she know she’s putting others at risk?!
Jayapal caught the virus probably because, well, that sometimes happens in a pandemic. I wish her and every Democrat who has been infected for failing to wear a mask well.
