In response to the Cuban people’s recent protests for freedom, the Black Lives Matter organization issued a statement that could have been written by Cuba’s communist oppressors.
The statement condemns the United States and holds the American government responsible for Cuba’s economic crisis, praises Cuba’s socialist healthcare system, and lauds Cuba’s harboring of “black revolutionaries,” including convicted cop-killer Assata Shakur.

To paraphrase Maya Angelou, when someone shows you who they are, believe them.
This is who BLM has always been. The organization was founded by avowed Marxists with ideological goals far beyond criminal justice reform. The group proudly called for the “transformation” of every part of American society. Here are just a few examples of BLM’s policy demands: The group wants to “disrupt the Western-prescribed nuclear family structure requirement,” abolish all police and prisons, restructure the “tax codes at the local, state, and federal levels to ensure a radical and sustainable redistribution of wealth,” socialize the healthcare system, and decriminalize prostitution and all drug-related offenses.
The backgrounds of BLM’s founders are no secret either. They are self-described Marxist revolutionaries who have worked with communist individuals and organizations several times, as my colleague Jerry Dunleavy reported. One of the key mentors who helped the group launch the BLM organization was a two-time vice presidential candidate for the Communist Party USA. One of BLM’s financial sponsors, Susan Rosenberg, was a member of the radical May 19th Communist Organization. And two of the original BLM founders, Alicia Garza and Patrisse Cullors, who recently stepped down from the group’s global foundation, proudly called themselves “trained Marxists” during a 2015 interview.
“We actually do have an ideological frame,” Cullors said, “and I think what we really try to do is build a movement that could be utilized by many, many black folk.”
So is it really any wonder that BLM would sing the praises of a communist regime that shares many of its stated ideological goals? It shouldn’t be, because this was always right out in the open for everyone to see.
None of that stopped Democrats and scared-woke U.S. corporations from giving BLM the legitimacy it needed. Democrats encouraged people to participate in BLM protests and make financial donations to the organization, and companies such as Airbnb, Bumble, and Doordash gave the group hundreds of thousands of dollars.
All along, BLM has been pushing for its own leftist revolution. Of course it admires Cuba’s.
