I hate to say I was right (not really), but I was right about the easiest thing in the world to predict.
CNN’s second town hall on gun violence was a mess of partisan, pro-gun control posturing. Second Amendment activists were wise to avoid this circus. CNN’s Chris Cuomo, an unapologetic NRA-hater, opened the evening by proving this very point.
“I guess they want to do their talking with propaganda ads and millions in lobbying. Besides, let’s be honest, the gun lobby is not going to be the answer,” he said.
The event, titled America Under Assault: The Gun Crisis, hosted victims of previous shootings. The National Rifle Association exercised prudence, declining to partake in the CNN-hosted facade.
Cuomo continued, “That shouldn’t be expected anymore than we expected big tobacco to help us expose the ills of smoking. The reality is, people like you are the answer, and there can be no sides when it comes to wanting to be safer, better protected.”
Nuanced commentary. It is a real mystery why pro-Second Amendment voices turned down his invitation.
The CNN host continued his rant into Thursday morning.
“Do you remember what the 2a was created for?” he asked on social media, working hard to maintain his spot as one of the most wrong people on the internet. “That there was no individual right contemplated until Scalia read it in? If you are an originalist about the Constitution you have no basis for thinking you and not the state controls access.”

This is not even close to being true. But at least Cuomo is consistent in being an ignorant hyperpartisan clown.
Last November, after a mass shooting in California that claimed 12 lives, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s little brother went off the rails.
“We can’t even have a conversation” about gun violence, Chris Cuomo lamented. “And prayer? You think leaving it to God is the answer? We pray for strength, we pray for wisdom, for resolve, but we clearly don’t want to act on any of those here. So what are you praying for?”
He added, “What would it take? How about a stadium full of children of the most influential people in our society all holding puppies? What if they were all shot and killed? Would we act?”
Second Amendment advocate Dana Loesch, who had the great displeasure of participating in CNN’s first town hall on gun violence, predicted Cuomo’s gun control power hour would be exactly what it sounded like.
“Given how disastrous the last one was for civil discourse on the issue I have zero expectation that this one will be any better,” she told the Washington Examiner. “It’s a difficult thing to ask viewers to suspend their reality and accept Cuomo, who has been quite partisan on the issue, as a sudden neutral moderator. Right off the bat it doesn’t seem like a good-faith gesture of objectivity.”
I would like to take credit for predicting correctly that Wednesday’s town hall would be a waste of time. But even a blind man could see this one coming, especially after CNN announced Cuomo would serve as host.
