Monkey see, monkey cure: Primates are necessary for research

Last month, an influential congressional committee approved legislation that would impose strict reporting requirements on medical research involving monkeys and other nonhuman primates. The goal is to substantially reduce such research.

These restrictions could endanger people’s lives. Primate research has led to some of the most important breakthroughs in medical history, and it promises to unlock treatments for the world’s deadliest diseases in the not too distant future.
