Stacey Abrams is an obvious try-hard, but her willingness to dump a ton of bricks onto the #MeToo movement all so she can advance her prospects of being Joe Biden’s running mate is truly remarkable.
The failed Georgia gubernatorial candidate said Tuesday on CNN that she wanted to be Biden’s pick for vice president despite the serious allegation of sexual assault he faces because, well, she’s decided she believes him and not Tara Reade, the woman who’s accusing him.
“The New York Times did a deep investigation, and they found that the accusation was not credible,” she said. “I believe Joe Biden.”
That’s all, folks!
Don’t confuse the assertion that the New York Times did a “deep investigation” with the idea that the paper simply didn’t find what it wasn’t really looking for.
What the New York Times did was look over past claims by Reade, who says Biden penetrated her with his fingers against her will when she worked in his Senate office in the early 1990s. Her story was spotty, but she has put forth other evidence, such as a contemporaneous phone call about the incident by her mother to Larry King’s CNN show. An associate of Reade has also corroborated her story, saying that she told her what happened at the time.
I also thought her accusation was flimsy — right up until this week, when Business Insider reported that a former neighbor, a woman who says she still supports Biden for president, recalled Reade’s claim back when it happened.
It’s very well possible that Biden is still innocent of everything, but what happened to “believe all women”?
For Abrams, that stops just short of her inner calling to be vice president.
Liberals like Abrams hated Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh during his confirmation process for being accused of something with less evidence than what Biden is facing.
To answer for that, Abrams said on CNN, “I believe then and I believe now that women deserve to be heard, and too often, they are not.” Yes, I’m sure that’s a lot of comfort to women who simply want to be heard and don’t necessarily need action taken.
To excuse that, Abrams said that “what was happening to Christine Blasey Ford is that there was no investigation.”
That’s untrue. Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing was delayed four times for a seemingly endless series of investigations by both the Senate and the FBI. That’s to say nothing of all the digging into Kavanaugh’s high school and college years done by the New Yorker, the New York Times, and the Washington Post.
Maybe Abrams should call for an FBI investigation into Reade’s claims.
What more did Abrams need? It apparently wouldn’t have required a neighbor to come forward confirming Ford’s account.
Abrams doesn’t care about #MeToo or about women or about sexual assault. She cares about being Biden’s running mate.
