On Sunday night, millions of people watched Super Bowl 58 from Las Vegas, which featured the championship NFL game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs. Over 65,000 fans were in attendance at Allegiant Stadium to watch the gridiron classic. And, arguably, each one of those audience members endured tougher security to enter the stadium than illegal immigrants do to enter the country.
Moreover, the NFL arguably did more to protect its fans than the government does to protect citizens from those illegally entering the country, especially those who wish to cause harm. Consider some of the extra security efforts implemented for the big game.
“The safety of our fans, players, and club and venue personnel at all NFL events is our top priority,” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said in a recent interview. “We have the utmost confidence in our comprehensive security plans.”
To protect fans in attendance for the Super Bowl in Las Vegas, the NFL collaborated with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety of those in attendance and prevent any devastating security breaches, Sportico reported. McCarthy said the NFL worked with federal agencies such as the FBI, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Customs and Border Protection, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, the Secret Service, and the Department of Homeland Security.
As part of its detail for the Super Bowl, DHS, led by the controversial Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, provided significant resources to help secure the Super Bowl, with reported figures believed to include more than 600 employees “for support of air, venue, cyber and infrastructure security and ‘real-time situational awareness.’”
It would be nearly impossible for a criminal looking to cause harm to enter the Super Bowl illegally. But it’s quite easy for that same criminal to enter the country illegally.
These are the security measures necessary to secure the nation’s border. It is understandable to want to protect the people at the Super Bowl. It is one of the country’s preeminent cultural events. No one wants any tragedy to occur there, and every available resource should go to making sure nothing bad happens. However, this should also be how DHS works to ensure border security. And sadly, it is not.
Unfortunately, in President Joe Biden’s America, under Mayorkas’s leadership of DHS, that is arguably the case. It’s a sad reflection of the shameless disregard of securing the border by Biden and the Democrats. And it’s a scathing indictment of Mayorkas’s incompetence.
Mayorkas could claim that Sunday’s Super Bowl was secure. He would be correct in that assertion. However, this would sharply contrast with the accuracy and honesty of such claims when Mayorkas says it about border security. It should not be easier to enter the United States illegally than the Super Bowl.
