Liberal media’s institutional focus on protecting Democratic politicians actually leaves Democrats in worse positions than they would be in if those outlets did their jobs with any integrity.
This is on display with each poll showing that former President Donald Trump is beating President Joe Biden in various states and in national polling. But it isn’t just the polls of the two candidates that prove this. A New York Times/Siena poll found that more voters of every demographic say that Trump’s policies have helped them more than Biden’s. Women, black voters, Hispanic voters, and voters under the age of 30 are all key parts of the Democratic Party’s voter base, and they all resoundingly say Trump’s policies were better for them than Biden’s.
In total, 18% say Biden’s policies have helped them personally, while 43% say they have hurt them. Across the board, he is losing a one-on-one comparison to Trump, a man who was himself wildly unpopular and already lost to Biden in 2020.
You would think this is despite the fact that liberal media has been covering for Biden and Democrats anywhere they can find them, but it is actually in spite of that fact. Biden’s administration has been focused on the same fringe matters that liberal media love: student loan debt erasure for predominantly wealthy white post-graduates, climate change, and pandering to pro-Hamas activists among them. Biden used real voter concerns about inflation to ram through a climate bill called “the Inflation Reduction Act.”
Through all of this, liberal media nodded along and cheered. When inflation got worse, making it tougher for people to get by in their daily lives, Biden continued focusing on student debt for wealthy elites. No one in liberal media pressed him on this, on how his policies made things worse for people, or on how his priorities made him look out of touch, which he is, because they didn’t want to be seen as tanking Biden’s presidency.
This is true with Biden’s age as well. Some in media are only now worried they didn’t focus on Biden’s age enough because he is losing poll after poll to Trump. Had they done that already, Biden could have been pushed into stepping down, or, more likely, the environment would have been more conducive to a primary challenge from a real contender. Instead, Democratic politicians rallied around Biden, and liberal media did the same, and now there is a real chance Trump will walk right back into the White House next January.

When Democrats are coddled by liberal media, they become unprepared for real challenges. That is why former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) chastised CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, for example, after getting modest pushback. Democrats can pick and choose favorable interviews, as Biden has with left-wing “comedians,” but no amount of media bias can overcome the experiences of voters themselves.
Iron sharpens iron. Media coddling of Biden made him and the Democratic Party weaker. If those liberal media outlets did their jobs, they probably wouldn’t be in this situation.
