Johnny Wayne and Frank Shuster, a legendary Canadian comedy duo, had a memorable sketch, “A Shakespearean Baseball Game.” First broadcast on CBC in 1958 and later performed on The Ed Sullivan Show, it was a humorous nod to Canada’s Stratford Festival, which has achieved international recognition for its Shakespeare plays. Wayne played the team’s catcher, Yogi, a Hamlet-like character desperately trying to end a 10-game hitless streak. Shuster played the manager with Horatio-like qualities.
