You don’t need to spend much time running through the possible challengers to Vice President Kamala Harris in the new Democratic presidential primary scramble. Democrats stuck themselves with Harris and her mediocrity by embracing a toxic racial ideology that will destroy the party if they pass over her.
Democrats have no real choice but to line up behind Harris because Harris was selected solely because she fit affirmative action standards that President Joe Biden used to pick a running mate and later his Cabinet. The only requirement Biden announced he had for selecting his running mate was that he would choose a woman, and he allowed himself to get pressured by his supporters into choosing a black woman. He did not prioritize accomplishments, qualifications, or even political utility. He instead prioritized diversity, equity, and inclusion.
That is how he ended up with Harris, a career-long mediocrity who flamed out of the presidential race in 2020 before voting even began. Harris won her Senate seat in California running against another Democrat. She has run against a Republican in a general election just twice, nearly losing her attorney general race in 2010 in California while every other statewide Democrat won by double digits. Her approval rating for much of Biden’s presidency has been worse than Biden’s, and her polling numbers are comparable despite her not having the liability of being too old to function past 4 p.m.

Because Harris was picked solely for being a black woman, the Democratic Party passing over her now would be seen as a commentary on her being a black woman, not on her glaring lack of political talent. This is why you are seeing Democrats fall into line behind Harris despite knowing that she is as poor of a candidate outside of Biden that they can find. They are locked into having to choose Harris, her poor approval ratings, and her incoherent word salads that cannot be blamed on cognitive decline from advanced age as Biden’s were.
In their pursuit of pointless skin color quotas and diversity requirements, Democrats have married themselves to a Harris nomination even if it hasn’t become official yet. None of the Democratic wish-list candidates are walking through that door, because Democrats glued it shut when they pushed Harris into a position she was not fit for because they wanted Biden to pick any black woman — no matter how unqualified or incompetent she may be.
