Why Joss Whedon left Twitter

Yesterday I wondered whether angry online feminists drove “Avengers” director Joss Whedon off of Twitter. While many believed this to be the answer, there was some evidence from the last time Whedon quit Twitter that he just didn’t like the busy-ness of the platform.

It turns out the latter was the case this time as well.

Whedon finally broke his silence to Buzzfeed News, calling the suggestion that he left Twitter due to feminist ire “horses–t.” The real reason, Whedon said, is that he wanted quiet so he could begin writing again.

“I just thought, ‘Wait a minute, if I’m going to start writing again, I have to go to the quiet place,'” he told Buzzfeed. “And this is the least quiet place I’ve ever been in my life. … It’s like taking the bar exam at Coachella.”

Whedon did at one point say that he has been attacked by online feminists before, and scolded the Left for infighting.

“Every breed of feminism is attacking every other breed, and every subsection of liberalism is always busy attacking another subsection of liberalism, because god forbid they should all band together and actually fight for the cause,” Whedon said.

Maybe now that the noise is quieting down, Whedon can get some writing done. Whatever it takes to keep his creativity going.
