It sure seems as if certain pro-Trump Republicans never really opposed the Kennedy and Clinton dynasties on principle.
They just wanted a dynasty to call their own.
Former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, for example, promised this week during an appearance on Fox News that the future of the Republican Party will be dominated by people with the last name “Trump.”
He said this with joy, not dread.
Meadows’s remarks came amid a broader discussion regarding former President Donald Trump’s forthcoming address this weekend at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Orlando, Florida.
“What we will see on Sunday is the start of planning for the next administration, and I can tell you, the people at the top of that list all have Trump as their last name,” Meadows said.
Republican voters say they want a party that represents the interests of the working class. So, naturally, certain pro-Trump Republicans are promising them dynastic rule. This is all a bit rich considering how much the anti-dynasty line was used against former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush during the 2016 GOP primary.
I guess it was never really about opposing entrenched political dynasties on principle and more about opposing the other guy’s entrenched political dynasty. May the glorious Trump dynasty reign for 1,000 years! May the former game show host’s children long hold power. It’s everything that energy workers in Ohio have dreamed of.
“You’re going to see a speech on Sunday that talks about, not only the beginning, but what the future may look like,” Meadows added. “I spoke to President Trump last night for a fairly lengthy conversation where we’re talking about America, where it needs to go, [and] continuing the ‘America First’ agenda.”
Man, alive. What a party.
You know, these Fox News segments featuring Trump’s most fanatic supporters, especially the ones who hold actual influence and power within the Republican Party, make more sense if you think of them as hostage videos.
