Caitlyn Jenner reportedly contacted President Trump’s camp to prevent his administration from rolling back a Title IX policy on gender identity implemented under the preceding administration.
Roughly one month after Trump took office, his administration withdrew a federal guidance issued under Obama that directed schools to let students use the restroom that corresponds with their “gender identity”. In a new interview with Huff Post, Jenner, who publicly slammed the president in the aftermath of his administration’s decision, explained, “When that went down, it really ticked me off.”
“I was all over it that day,” Jenner said. “I was emailing the entire Trump campaign saying ‘Don’t do this.'”
Citing taxes and Obamacare as more important issues for the president to tackle, Jenner suggested the move was unnecessary.
The former Olympian claimed Trump was supportive of LGBT rights during a conversation they shared before the election, remarking, “I did talk to him during the campaign on the phone about trans issues and the entire LGBT community and he was nothing but in support.”
“He was great on the phone and I complimented him,” Jenner maintained.
Being a high-profile transgender Republican, Jenner argued, opens up opportunities to level influence, contending, “I think it’s good that I’m a Republican. I’m kind of on the inside. I love private meetings with powerful people.”
Jenner, who spoke positively of both Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and Trump, during last year’s primary, did not reveal with whom any of those meetings have occurred.
