Biphobia’ is now a thing

Navigating liberal orthodoxy on sexuality is treacherous. Norms of acceptable thought are changing so quickly that even the painfully woke fall behind, and thus earn hateful scorn.

At least that’s what happened to the creators of Big Mouth, a cartoon comedy show. In a recent episode, a new student introduced herself as “pansexual.” When asked about whether or not this was the same thing as bisexual, Ali Wong’s character emphatically says no: “Bisexual is so binary.” The show’s creators were clearly trying to be progressive and cutting edge. But, apparently, the distinction they made between pansexual and bisexual was problematic. Bisexuality, the mob explained, is not, in fact, binary.

Thus, the offenders were forced into contrition after internet backlash. Big Mouth Executive Producer Andrew Goldberg put out a statement expressing their remorse:

We missed the mark here with this definition of bisexuality vs. pansexuality, and my fellow creators and I sincerely apologize for making people feel misrepresented. Any time we try to define something as complex as human sexuality, it’s super challenging, and this time we could have done better. Thank you to the trans, pan, and bi communities for further opening our eyes to these important and complicated issues of representation. We are listening and we look forward to delving into all of this in future seasons.

The left-wing culture website The Mary Sue published a piece accepting the creators’ apology but wondering aloud how to deal with such “biphobia” going forward. It provided a supposedly official definition of “bisexual” that is not binary and includes “love beyond gender” and “attraction to all sexes or genders.”

Are you having trouble keeping up? No one can blame you. The rapidly evolving dogma of the gender and sexuality movement is impossible to keep up with, even among the Hollywood elites. But woe to those who fall behind.
