This Sunday afternoon, as I was about to get on the metro in the Washington neighborhood of Eastern Market, several National Guard troops broke up a fist fight between two unidentified suspects in a public park full of families, bystanders, tourists, and metro riders.
As the guard members approached the suspects, the suspect who began the fight fled the scene on his bicycle.

If it weren’t for the National Guard members deployed to the city by President Donald Trump, the fight would’ve continued, resulting in more severe physical consequences for the subjects involved and a more disturbing view for bystanders enjoying their Sunday afternoon stroll in the capital city.
The Metropolitan Police Department, made up of brave men and women who ensure that Washington remains as the internationally powerful city it is supposed to be, lacks the bandwidth to be in all areas at all times and is unable to prevent this type of activity from occurring on a more regular basis as a result.
But thankfully, the presence of the troops, as seen above, de-escalated the conflict and has reduced the commonality of such situations from spurring up throughout the city.
For somebody who has been a resident of the city for over a year, I can say that I have already seen my share of unprompted violence between locals, as it used to be a common occurrence in Washington, especially in and around Metro stops. Thanks to the president, however, the chances of anyone having to witness situations like this on a regular occasion have gone down tremendously this past summer.
As seen in the video I took, the city is not perfect in terms of crime, but it is a lot better off under the watch of the National Guard, making the president’s move a step in the right direction.
Before he mobilized the military police, Trump promised to remove the evil roaming the streets of Washington.
“We’re going to beautify it. We’re going to make it the most beautiful capital in the world,” the president said.
Months later, he has delivered on that promise.
“Since August 11, 2025, due to the cooperative efforts between District and federal officials, violent crime in the District has noticeably decreased, District of Columbia Mayor Muriel Bowser wrote.
Currently, Trump is attempting to duplicate his efforts in other crime-ravaged cities under Democratic rule, such as Baltimore and Chicago. Unfortunately, Democrats in those cities are defying Trump’s offer, stating that they have it all under control.

Trump, however, shifted his attention to other American cities, such as New Orleans, where he wouldn’t be faced with opposition for trying to save American lives.
“We’re going to come into New Orleans, and we’re going to make that place so safe. It’s got a little problem right now. A couple of headaches like murders, a lot of little murders going on, and we’re not going to stand for it. And we’re going to come in, we’re going to clean it up,” the president stated. “You’re going to be safe within two weeks. That’s going to be the safest place. Just like this is the safest place,” Trump added, as he referred to the results of Washington.
