As Democratic officials refused the federal government’s offer to help fight off crime, republican states and officials welcomed it, which created a contrast between the two parties’ tolerance for violent crime.
“The President’s constitutional authority to secure our borders is clear. I stand with him now as he works to reverse the disastrous open-border policies of the Biden–Harris Administration that created the worst border crisis in our nation’s history,” Rep. Andy Barr (R-KY) told the Washington Examiner.
BONDI SAYS FEDERAL TROOPS WILL GO TO A CITY THAT ‘WANTS US THERE’ RATHER THAN CHICAGO
“No activist judge, left-wing politician, or special-interest group will stand in our way,” the Freedom Caucus member added.
Similarly, a spokeswoman for Rep. Andy Harris (R-MD) told the Washington Examiner Rep. Harris “strongly supports President Trump’s efforts to enforce our immigration laws and deport those in our country illegally.”
[Harris] “urges Maryland leaders to follow the administration’s lead and prioritize the safety, security, and well-being of their communities by working to remove criminal illegal aliens and restore order to our cities,” she added.
Harris is not the only Republican in Maryland, which has a Democrat who continuously denies President Donald Trump’s proposal to send federal law enforcement to welcome the administration’s help.
“It is in our best interest to protect our cities, our families, and our communities. A stronger presence of law enforcement is certainly needed,” Frederick County Councilmember Mason Carter told the Washington Examiner.
The Maryland Republican’s claim goes to show his zero tolerance for unprecedented crime rates in the state, which Gov. Wes Moore (D-MD) says is under control.
But it’s not. While crime in Maryland has decreased over the past year, it is still higher than the national average.
Across the country, more Republican officials have followed suit in the past week and have welcomed federal law enforcement to assist with anti-crime efforts, while Democratic officials continued to resist the efforts.
Last week, Arkansas and Tennessee became the newest states to welcome the Department of Homeland Security to assist with anti-crime operations.
“I look forward to our guardsmen working with the Trump Administration to enforce federal immigration law,” Gov. Sarah Huckabee-Sanders wrote.
“Our Guardsmen are highly trained and committed to enabling federal agents to focus on their core operations,” added Brig. Gen. Chad Bridges, Arkansas’ adjutant general in the same news release.
Arkansas’s adoption of the anti-crime operations added it to the list of red states, such as Florida, Louisiana, Georgia, and Texas, that wish to put Americans first.
Democrats, on the other hand, would rather permit the mounting crime that plagues their states instead of cooperating with President Donald Trump’s anti-crime operations.
Illinois, for example, has desperately refused Trump’s anti-crime operations. Even after the state witnessed an 18% rise in violent crime in 2024 and a decline in arrests by 43% over the last 10 years, Mayor Johnson and Gov. Pritzker still believe they do not need assistance with their law enforcement operations.
Another example is Memphis, where federal troops touched down just last week.
In 2022 alone, Memphis had a homicide rate nearly twice as high as Detroit. Regardless of having known this disturbing statistic, not only is the Mayor “not happy” with National Guard presence, but he is purposely attempting to sabotage their operations.
“I’m certainly not happy about the National Guard,” said Memphis Mayor Paul Young.
DEMS IN DISSARAY; BOWSER COOPERATES, PRITZKER DEFIES ON CRIME
“We’re going to do all that we can to make sure that it has a limited impact on our community,” Young added.
The strong uptick in crime in Democrat-run cities, which have been under Democratic rule for decades, and the Democrats’ refusal to enforce the law only emphasize their tolerance toward crime.
