Kabul airport horror emphasizes how presidential elections have consequences

The suspected suicide bombing attack in Kabul on Thursday has left a scene of carnage among forlorn Afghans looking to escape. Additionally, the bombing outside Abbey Gate at Kabul’s airport killed at least 10 U.S. Marines and soldiers, Fox News reported. A second explosion occurred outside the Baron Hotel.

In a tragedy that seems closer to the plot of an episode of the series Homeland than to reality, the tragedy at Kabul has revealed the complete incompetence of the Biden administration to the world.

President Joe Biden is often mocked and criticized for appearing aloof. His public appearances have raised concerns about his cognitive health. The botched Afghanistan response has caused some to opine he has dementia. This is the fallout from a campaign to “remove Trump” rather than a legitimate evaluation of a candidate’s policies, resumé, and previous actions after nearly half a century in government. Elections have consequences, and people are dying in Afghanistan as a result.

The latest reports of U.S. military fatalities show there were more deaths Thursday than all of 2021. There have been almost as many deaths Thursday as were averaged annually since 2016. This all comes on the heels of Biden’s interview a week ago in which he stated, “No one’s being killed” in Afghanistan. Though, to be fair, he did demonstrate his foreign policy acumen with a strong “knock on wood” declaration.

Elections indeed have consequences, yet Americans should expect better. Americans deserve more than a “knock on wood” from their commander in chief. Considering some of the savvy of our country’s previous leaders, Biden has been an unfathomable disaster. We have gone from Theodore Roosevelt’s “Speak softly and carry a big stick” to Biden’s “Speak incoherently and not remember where he put the stick.”

It has been only seven months, but Biden’s promise to “Build Back Better” has accomplished nothing at home. Its foreign policy accompaniment has already resulted in more loss of American lives in Afghanistan than “Make America Great Again” averaged each year of Trump’s presidency. Elections have consequences, and unfortunately, the consequences of Biden’s election have meant American soldiers dying and a disastrous Afghanistan policy that has made the international community question the United States’s intelligence and capabilities.
