Poll shows Hillary crushing Bill de Blasio for NYC mayor

Did Hillary Clinton’s campaign save those fireworks they didn’t set off on election night? There might still be a use for them, according to a new poll just out from Quinnipiac University.

Were she to jump into the New York City mayor’s race as an independent candidate (she’d have to move to New York City by Nov. 7), Hillary Clinton would begin with a 20-point lead in a head-to-head general election against incumbent Democratic Mayor Bill de Blasio. She clocks in with 49 percent support, including 61 percent of Democrats. (Oddly, New York City Republicans prefer the left-wing de Blasio, 27 to 19 percent.) She leads him with every age group and in every borough except Staten Island, where more than 41 percent either refused to say or said they wouldn’t vote.

Barring Clinton’s entry, or an indictment of Mayor de Blasio, he looks pretty good for re-election. He has a commanding 24-point lead over his nearest competitor tested for the primary, and he leads all other potential independent opponents by double digits.

Of course, Clinton is not getting into that race — not in this life, anyway. Even if she did, she might only prove again how good she is at blowing an easy win.
