While the Democratic Party and our liberal culturemakers become even more extreme in pushing transgenderism on the country, polling shows people aren’t on board.
A poll from Public Opinion Strategies found people across partisan lines support Florida’s law that prevents classroom instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity to children in third grade and lower when they actually read the language of the law. Democrats back it 55% to 29%. Parents, unsurprisingly, support the law 67% to 24%. Even among people who “know someone LGBTQ,” the law is supported 61% to 28%.
The poll also touches on two other issues. Just 8% of people support states removing gender from birth certificates, compared to 79% opposing. That includes 67% of Democrats who oppose. Another 60% of people support the idea that “transgender athletes should only be allowed to play on sports teams that match their birth gender,” compared to just 24% who oppose. This is the only issue polled in which Democrats get squeamish, but even then, 39% think biological sex matters in sports, compared to 36% opposing.
And yet, Democrats and liberals are pushing the boundaries far beyond those issues. The State Department is adding an “X” option for gender on passports to advance “inclusion.” The city council of Palm Springs, California, wants to disburse up to $900 a month to transgender and “nonbinary” residents. Disney and others have gone all-in on supporting teaching first graders about gender transitions.
Most gallingly, President Joe Biden and the executive branch have gone all-in on supporting “gender-affirming care” for children, a euphemism for chemically and physically altering children with puberty blockers, hormones, and surgery. Despite the fact that the vast majority of children will grow out of their gender dysphoria, Biden wants to push them down an irreversible path that even detransitioning adults struggle to make it back from.
Most people recognize this absurdity. They know that Lia Thomas, a man, should not be swimming against women. They know that putting an 11-year-old on puberty blockers is insanely irresponsible — abusive, even. But, at the urging of celebrities and activists, this is what the Democratic Party has become. There are many reasons the Democratic Party shouldn’t be allowed near power, and this issue has quickly vaulted itself to the top of the list.
