Democrats do a lot of annoying things, but the most annoying thing they’re doing right now is acting like Republicans are to blame for the #MeToo problems that they themselves created.
A New York Times story this weekend covered the debate Democrats are having right now about how to live up to their own standards when it comes to accusations of sexual misconduct. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, formerly a hero within his party and the national media, is facing several, and while scores of Democratic leaders have called for him to resign, others are more openly concerned with the politics of the matter.
“While what he allegedly did was certainly not right, it doesn’t even come close to some of the antics from the other side,” Manhattan-based Democratic voter Meredith Pilat told the paper. “When I watch the Republican Party play dirty every day, I get a bit annoyed at the double standard imposed on Democrats.”
Ridiculous. There is no “double standard imposed on Democrats.” The only question Republicans have is whether Democrats actually believe the things they say, such as, “Believe women.”
The standard is theirs. Republicans weren’t the ones saying throw out due process for anyone facing sexual harassment charges. That was Democrats. They’re angry that anyone would hold them to their own demands of others, but that’s tough for them. The consequence of turning allegations into a political weapon has consequences. It turns out that the #MeToo sword they’ve been wielding is double-edged.
