Editorial: Bentley is a name to be proud of

Voting to name something will not earn our governor (or any other governor) a Profile in Courage Award, a get-out-of-jail free card, big cash contributions or a material number of votes in a re-election campaign.

And changing signage and letterhead costs a few bucks, as those who nitpick Gov. Robert Ehrlich have been quick to note.

Mostly, the naming may earn goodwill from the honoree and the honoree?s family and friends and give teachers a couple of generations from now a multiple-choice question for a civics test.

But sometimes a name really does fit a place. Such is the obvious case with our port and former Congresswoman Helen Delich Bentley, a distinguished Marylander.

She has spent a career as a fierce and successful advocate for our port and a distinguished maritime affairs leader who has done her state proud.
