Are we seeing the most astounding election night since 1980?

An interesting evening. Going into the 9 p.m. ET hour, it looked like Hillary Clinton would win comfortably in the Electoral College, with leads then in the tabulated vote in Florida, North Carolina and an obvious possibility for a lead in Virginia. But approaching 10 p.m. ET, there seemed to be a possibility of a Trump win — and not just a narrow win, but a wide one. As I write, he’s ahead in the tabulated vote in Florida (where he looks pretty likely to win), North Carolina (where his lead could plausibly be overcome), Virginia, New Hampshire, Ohio and Michigan. And he looks to have a fair chance to carry Colorado and has been long favored to carry Iowa. We’ll see if these leads hold up. If so, it’s the most astounding and surprising election night since 1980.
