People across the country are facing many problems, from crime to inflation to poverty. But don’t forget to take time to weep for celebrities, the real victims in our society.
Such is the reminder offered by Lizzo, who wants to let everyone know that, despite her pop music career and her fashion line, she is oppressed. While accepting an award in front of a bunch of other celebrities, Lizzo let fans know that their votes mean everything to her. “It means everything to making a change in this country,” she said. “So remember, when you’re voting for your favorite artist, vote to change some of these laws that are oppressing us.”

Oh, won’t someone think of the multimillionaire pop star?
What “oppressive” laws she is referring to exactly are unclear. After the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, Lizzo announced that she would donate $500,000 from her upcoming tour to Planned Parenthood. Lizzo called Texas’s abortion ban “atrocious,” but, while she was raised in Texas, she lives in California, where abortion is enthusiastically promoted by the state’s Democratic supermajority.
Her Los Angeles home is worth $26 million, in case you wondered just how oppressed she was.
Listening to celebrities whine about political issues they don’t understand and issue vague statements of support for liberal policies has become the norm at award shows, which helps explain why all of them are in decline. The MTV Video Music Awards has seen five straight years of declining audiences before this year, with just 900,000 viewers tuning in in 2021 for an event that pulled 12.4 million in 2011.
Believe it or not, Lizzo is not oppressed. No one is “oppressed” by laws saying that you can’t kill unborn children, and that is especially true for a multimillionaire celebrity who lives in a state that doesn’t have such laws. There are far bigger problems in this country than famous whiny liberals being upset that some people can no longer treat abortion like a casual form of birth control.
