Who: Department of EnergyWhat: Gave $12.5 million in a taxpayer-funded energy grant to “put San Diegans to work in engineering and construction,” at least according to Mayor Jerry Sanders one year ago.
Why it’s an outrage: Spending $5 million of that grant on green energy at Balboa Park is bad enough — why should taxpayers foot the bill? — but the money hasn’t even been spent yet, meaning it has been set aside for no purpose other than waiting.
