Philadelphia has recently attained the dubious distinction of murder capital of the United States. Homicides there have hit record highs. This has occurred during the term of Soros-backed District Attorney Larry Krasner, who bears most of the blame.
Krasner entered office promising to reshape the criminal justice system to help African Americans. However, during his time in office, there have been more black lives lost to murder than before he was in office, thanks in large part to his refusal to prosecute gun crimes.
Prosecutions of gun crimes have drastically fallen during Krasner’s tenure, as the local blog Broad and Liberty spells out. Krasner has overseen a 17% increase in withdrawals or dismissals of gun charges this year compared to 2015. This lack of prosecutions has coincided with a nearly 60% decrease in guilty pleas in gun crime cases.
Krasner has attempted to shift attention from his failed policies by blaming Republicans in the state General Assembly and the NRA. Krasner’s solution to the meteoric rise in gun deaths in Philadelphia is to vote Republicans out of office. He declared that corrupt Republican politicians supported by the NRA “are the people who just keep endangering lives in Philadelphia.”
This claim, however, is an absurd deflection. The NRA isn’t stopping Krasner from prosecuting gun-wielding criminals. He’s failing to do it all on his own.
Such fallacious and inflammatory rhetoric is typical of Democrats after their policies ruin the quality of life of people living in the cities they represent. Krasner is no different. And as with every other Democrat whose failed policies cause havoc in their city, black lives continue to be lost because of Krasner.
In 2020, African Americans made up 84% of the victims in the city’s 2,236 shootings, and a vast majority of its nearly 500 dead. Krasner may have campaigned on black lives mattering, but his policies show they do not matter at all to him.
