The NBA just followed Hollywood and Silicon Valley with its display of moral cowardice over China

The NBA has boycotted North Carolina for passing a virtue signaling bathroom bill. They’ve boycotted the White House in the name of our oft-objectionable but democratically elected president. But for the communist Chinese government — belligerent on the world stage, murderous and incompetent in domestic affairs, and currently imprisoning as many as 3 million in concentration camps in Xinjiang — the sycophantic hacks ruling the NBA are happy to bend the knee.

The Chinese Basketball Association recently suspended relations with the Houston Rockets, whose general manager, Daryl Morey, tweeted in support of democratic protesters in Hong Kong. In response, the NBA ran interference — not for its own members to support democracy, but for the dictatorship wishing to silence all support for democracy in Hong Kong.

As you read this from the comfort of your capitalist country, China holds millions of its Muslim and minority citizens in concentration camps, subjecting its prisoners to organ harvesting, forced abortions, effective slavery, systemic violence, torture, and even murder. The nation forcibly seizes the biometric data of its own citizens and executes thousands every year — at least officially speaking. In the minute you’ve taken to read this article thus far, Chinese have aborted three unborn baby girls thanks to the dictatorship’s gendered social policing. And of course, all of this ignores the utter and complete absence of civil liberties enjoyed by China’s 1.4 billion people.

But the NBA just wants to apologize if the murdering, torturing, and rape-enabling autocrats controlling nearly one-fifth of humanity was offended by a tweet!

The NBA is well within its rights to take advantage of its privilege as a member of the greatest and freest nation in human history to criticize our president and use capitalism to show support or disdain for other states policies. But to bend the knee to China’s dictatorship, while protesters in Hong Kong brandish the American flag in their last stand for freedom, is beyond embarrassing. It’s disgraceful and disgusting and pathetic. The NBA didn’t even have to take sides, and yet it chose to put the sensibilities of state murderers ahead of democracy, all in hopes of making a few extra bucks.

The NBA is just following suit in cowering to the commies. Silicon Valley, Hollywood, and America’s fashion houses, which style themselves the wokest industries in the country, have proven our nation’s biggest moral cowards when it comes to China. They have all put on a similarly self-flagellating show of obeisance to the Chinese government. So perhaps the NBA’s similarly disgraceful display should come as no surprise.

If the bipartisan outrage fulminating overnight can grant us a flicker of hope, maybe it is that we the people, as lovers of liberty rather than partisan adversaries, can come together to condemn the NBA’s cowardice for what it truly is.
