Not since President George W. Bush won 40% of the Hispanic vote in 2004 did a Republican do as well with Hispanics as President Donald Trump did in 2020. But unlike the 2004 surge, it appears Hispanics are sticking with Republicans this time, and the Democratic Party’s far-left open borders agenda is a big reason why.
A new poll of 1,200 Hispanic registered voters in Texas out on Thursday shows Republicans tied with Democrats for support in the midterm elections. The GOP even holds a 2-point edge among the self-identified working class.
For the first time in history, a majority of Hispanic voters now believe that the Republican Party better reflects their values and priorities. Republicans hold a 15-point lead over Democrats on being the party most associated with “hard work” and a 7-point lead on “fixing the immigration system.”
Asked specifically “Which immediate approach would you prefer to solve the situation along the Southern border,” 57% chose “Increasing border security measures to stop illegal migrants from crossing.” Just 27% chose “Allowing more illegal migrants to seek asylum in the United States.”
Since President Joe Biden took office, over 1.3 million migrants caught illegally crossing the southern border have been released into the United States. This flood of illegal border crossings, caused entirely by Biden’s catch-and-release policies, has overwhelmed local communities, communities that Biden refuses to visit or even acknowledge.
No wonder Hispanics are telling pollsters that the Democratic Party is going in the wrong direction.
