The Great 2014 Cashout: Carl Levin to law/lobbying firm, will work on ‘government affairs’

Give Michigan’s longtime Democratic senator some credit: He may actually be returning to the state he represented.

Carl Levin will join a Michigan law firm that has one lobbying client, the powerful Biotechnology Industry Organization. The firm says in its announcement:

The focus of Levin’s practice at Honigman will include aiding corporations with internal investigations and crisis management; assisting corporations with social responsibility and compliance issues; and facilitating alternative dispute resolutions and mediations. In addition, Levin will serve as an advisor to the firm’s Government Relations and Regulatory Practice Group. …

Levin, in the announcement, explains his value to Honigman’s clients: “It will be a part of my role to help business clients navigate the path to understanding and complying with complex state and federal laws and regulations.”

Levin, through supporting laws like Obamacare and Dodd-Frank, helped make this path to complying more treacherous, and helped make “federal laws and regulations” as “complex” as they are.

A handful of his fellow 2014 retirees have also passed through the revolving door, including Mark Pryor, Mark Begich, and Saxby Chambliss.
