A week ago, a survey by the Baltimore Banner revealed that most Baltimoreans view crime as their primary concern. This week, Baltimore politicians showed how they contributed to this rampant crime. Senseless policies prioritizing criminals over citizens helped a felon, who has terrorized Baltimore for years, to stay on the streets, free to do harm. This time, his victim was a police officer.
Joseph Black dragged a Baltimore officer with his car for two blocks after struggling with him during a traffic stop this week. Black was a repeat violent offender with 19 prior arrests, including attempted murder. He should have been in jail, but Baltimore City State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby’s office offered him a plea deal instead. Now, a police officer has been grievously injured as a result. This is one of the numerous examples of how Democratic politicians put innocent people in harm’s way.
“There’s no one-answer solution to this madness, but Baltimore is in dire need of political reconstruction,” said Dana Alexa, host of The Real Story and University of Maryland alum. “The people there have suffered under such progressive, soft-on-crime policies with such explicit lack of leadership. Sadly, Baltimoreans have been lied to and will continue down this route for years to come.”
Baltimore is at a crossroads. Violent crime is at record levels, and incompetent politicians have done nothing but make excuses. Politicians such as Mosby have prioritized horrible politics that have led to disastrous results. The city is yearning for change.
“Just to put this in perspective, last year was the most violent per capita year in Baltimore history,” Thiru Vignarajah, former federal and state prosecutor, said in March. “We had a higher per capita homicide rate than at any point including the ’90s.” He then pointed out that things are already worse this year. “To be 30% worse than last year’s rate — it’s almost unconscionable.”
Incompetent and unethical politicians have plagued the city, using Baltimore’s Democratic monopoly to their advantage instead of helping the citizens who need it. Even worse, those in charge of holding criminals accountable are borderline criminals themselves.
“The last 10 mayors were Democrats, dating all the way back to 1967,” said Alexa. “The incumbent and very incompetent state’s attorney Marilyn Mosby is currently facing five years of prison time over perjury charges. Former Mayor Catherine Pugh was found on fraud conspiracy and tax charges during her time in office, and so much more.”
It’s long been established that Mosby’s criminal justice failures are problematic. But now, it’s proven they run counter to what many Baltimoreans want to see from their city leadership. As Mosby prioritized keeping criminals out of jail, the aforementioned survey showed that the people wanted harsher penalties for criminals. They also want more money allocated to the police to protect them from these thugs.
Now, it’s either up to the politicians to make these changes or the people to start voting them out of office. If not, well, we have seen what the policies of the city’s politicians have created, and it will be more of the same. These “woke” policies by DAs funded by radical left-wing special interest groups have been disastrous for their cities. To fight crime, you need to lock criminals up and get them off the street. Only when that happens will we become safer.
