Why Iran is linking Qassem Soleimani to Jan. 6

Two years after President Donald Trump ordered the drone strike killing of Iranian terrorist Qassem Soleimani, some in the Middle East are again vowing revenge.

We’ve already seen some indications of Iran’s intent. A conventional attack occurred on Sunday when two drones were shot down near an Iraqi military base. “Soleimani’s Revenge” was written on one of the drone’s wings. Israel’s Jerusalem Post newspaper was also subject to a cyberattack. Its home page was hacked with the ominous message, “We are close to you where you do not think about it,” replacing its homepage in both English and Hebrew. A picture of a missile escaping a ring worn by Soleimani accompanied the phrase.

At the same time, Iran is waging a public relations campaign vowing revenge if Trump and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo are not tried for killing Soleimani. They are also taking to Twitter to use leftist talking points to attack Trump, America, and Israel.

“2 years ago, I lost a friend, Iran a hero & the world a champion in fighting terrorism,” tweeted former Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif. “To those in denial, Trump’s true colors were on full display only a year later in U.S. Capitol. The world needs brave fighters like #Soleimani — not coward warmongers like Trump, Netanyahu & Co.”

Zarif does not need to look far to realize that the Jan. 6 riot is the front and center of Democratic talking points. Between the New York Times editorial board’s op-ed, “Every Day Is January 6 Now,” the three separate authors of the Washington Post’s column, “Fear, anger and trauma: How the Jan. 6 attack changed Congress,” or CNN’s wall to wall coverage of the event, the evidence is pretty clear; Democrats are obsessed with Jan. 6.

They have good reason to be. A USA Today/Suffolk poll showed 86% of respondents describing 2021 negatively when asked to give a one-word adjective. Biden’s job approval is circling the drain, along with his handling of the economy and COVID. Democrats and their media partners need to focus this entire year on Trump just to prevent a foreseeable Red Wave in November from turning into a Red Tsunami.

Zarif is taking advantage of that. By tying Iran to the anti-Trump movement, he’s likely to gain support for the fascistic dictatorship among Democrats. It’s not that far of a leap, considering that Biden said he would not have ordered the strike that killed Soleimani. Biden also seems ready to cave to Iran’s demands regarding efforts to restore the 2015 Iran nuclear accord.

Nor is this the first time America’s enemies used Democratic talking points to justify their own actions. The Soviets routinely pointed to the Jim Crow South when criticized on gulags. The Chinese Communists bring up police shootings when condemned on treatment of Muslim Uyghurs. Our enemies know how to deflect blame.

We should be aware of what they’re doing.
