Fox News has a good story up on some leaked audio from a private meeting between Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and some Border Patrol agents in Texas.
“A couple of days ago, I was down in Mexico, and I said, ‘Look, you know, if our borders are the first line of defense, we’re going to lose, and this is unsustainable,'” Mayorkas says in the audio.
And it is newsy to have a Department of Homeland Security secretary admitting that “we’re going to lose, and this is unsustainable.” But the audio also just shows how clueless the Biden administration continues to be about the true origins of the border crisis.
Mayorkas seems to believe the problem lies somewhere other than “our borders,” which he seems to believe can’t be our first line of defense.
But they can and absolutely must be — as one of the Border Patrol agents in the meeting told Mayorkas to his face.
“For those of us who have been around here long enough … we don’t need to reinvent the wheel,” one agent told Mayorkas. “We’ve had this happen before. We know exactly how to shut it down. We need to make illegal entry illegal.”
This agent gets it. If this agent were DHS secretary, the Biden border crisis would be over tomorrow.
The problem at the border is not too few agents or too few drones or too few social welfare workers.
The problem is that President Joe Biden had functionally legalized illegal immigration. If you are an unaccompanied minor or an adult traveling with a minor, the Biden policy is that after Customs and Border Protection catches you, you are promptly released into the country.
Illegal immigration has been made legal. If we want to end the border crisis, all we have to do, as the border agent says, is make illegal entry illegal again.
