Bernie Sanders claims that “unlike the Republicans,” the Democratic Party embraces diversity. But comparing the 2020 Democrats to the 2016 Republicans, that statement is questionable at best.

In 2016, the GOP presidential candidates had a great deal of diversity. Marco Rubio was a Hispanic Catholic. Ben Carson was a Black Protestant. There was former Hewlett Packard CEO Carly Fiorina, a woman. The Republican field featured plenty of diversity in 2016. All of the top three Democratic candidates, Bernie, Biden and Warren, are white (being one one-millionth Cherokee does not count), so they’re hardly in a place to lecture on this topic.
