THE DAILY OUTRAGE: Maybe he should have volunteered

WHO: The National Science Foundation

WHAT: University of Minnesota master’s student Alexander Maki was recently awarded a graduate fellowship from the NSF to “investigate the motivations for getting involved in volunteer causes and ways to keep volunteers actively involved in doing what they do.”

WHY IT’S AN OUTRAGE: The grant money to study volunteerism — which will provide Maki with a stipend for three years in addition to paying his tuition, fees, and insurance — was taken involuntarily from taxpayers.

WHERE TO VENT: Call the NSF at 703-292-5111.
