Jimmy Carter is the world’s most boring living public figure.
But he’s not so boring as to forget he’s still alive, which is exactly what someone at Fox News Insider did this weekend.
The obvious mistake came in an article commemorating former President George H. W. Bush for being the longest living ex-commander in chief.
The article included the following passage [emphasis added]: “Bush, 93 years old and 166 days old, outlasted the previous oldest president, Gerald Ford, who passed away at 93 and 165 days old. Ronald Reagan and Jimmy Carter also died at 93.”
For the record, Carter is still alive and kicking. He is also as boring as ever, though he had a moment in the sun in 2012 after his grandson acquired a surreptitiously recorded video showing former Massachusetts gov. and then-GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney discussing the 47 percent of Americans who’d never vote Republican.
Carter was also in the news a few years back after a cancer scare. He announced in 2015 that he was, miraculously, cancer-free. Maybe this two-year-old story is where the Fox News Insider author got the idea the former president was dead? Who knows.
At any rate, the Fox article has since been amended to include the following editor’s note: “This article previously incorrectly stated that former President Jimmy Carter had died. We sincerely regret the error.”
We understand that it’s very easy to overlook Carter. As far as public figures are concerned, he’s 100 percent forgettable. He is the antonym to dynamic. But come on, guys: He’s not dead yet.
